Demi and Ashton -- Too much of an age difference?

You know I love my celebrities.  This week I'm feeling for my gal Demi.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton.  As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."

We don't have to read too far between the lines, do we?  I know... none of us knows what really went on between them, but I have to believe there's some truth to all the tabloid reports of his indiscretions.  And I also have to wonder how much the more than 15-year age difference played a part in their decision to split.

I've written about age differences before--check these posts.   A few years ago, I met a 55-year-old man whose wife was 70.  I have to admit when he told me that, I stopped in my tracks.  I know I shouldn't generalize, but if you think of any mature 25-year-old guy with a 40-year-old woman, the age difference doesn't seem insurmountable.  But I think the older they get, the more the difference makes a... difference.

I've come to realize I really like being with someone my own age.  Personally, I can't imagine going for someone 15 years older--he'd be 69!  I can't seriously imagine 15 years younger, either--I'd make an exception for Prince Harry, of course--though I could see myself with a 39-year-old a lot easier than a 69-year-old.

What do you think?

How significant is an age difference when it comes to relationships?

How much older or younger could YOU go?

Personally, I think age doesn't really matter as long as there is love and respect towards one another...

For some reason, I tend to be attracted to older women. Maybe I bring out the youth in them. My ex-wife was a year older than me. A former girlfriend was seven years older than me. My current lady is two years over me.

I think the closer the age the better. I didn't always think that, I do now. It is better if the changes one goes through are better handled in unison.

To me the most important thing in a relationship it communication. That is what you really need. I really don't think age has anything to do with it if you have the communication.

My ex cheated on me with a much younger lady so did my ex boyfriend. For me it would five years older or younger. That is it.

Age makes no difference. It's a number. Regarding this specific scenario, I think Demi wanted more than her husband - it sounds like an open marriage gone awry with jealousy...of course, if the rumors are true...and yes, they are just rumors right now and we'll likely never ever know for certain.

But again, age is a #. Love should be blind to #'s.

Age is a HUGE DIFFERENCE when you're a pup of 26 and your old lady really is an old lady. What the hell was she thinking?! Ashton is someone you get your freak on with ... NOT MARRY. Demi bugs the crap outta me and Ashton is a big-assed GOOFBALL. I hate those stupid camera commercials he does.

#1 13 years older
#2 16 years older
#3 10 years older.
I go for the older guy, I guess I'm hoping they have learned how to treat a woman by the time I get them. Of course I was wrong about the first one but everybody has to start somewhere. I think the most I would go younger is a couple of years.

When Ashton was 21 (or whatever he was when Demi tumbled for him), he probably thought it was pretty cool to have a 40-year-old who was plenty hot and a movie star to boot.

Now that he's a little older, he realizes she is, too. Not only that, every time he turns around, he sees 21-year-old sweet things tugging at his sleeve.

Shows you it wasn't really about love to begin with.

Ironically I always seem to be the older one, although not by far. My ex was 4 years younger than me, and Michael is 2 years younger.

That's about as far as I want to go in age range!

Age is just a number when everything else about the relationship works. It certainly CAN be a problem if both parties have even a speck of an issue with it. But I was married to a guy 16 years my junior. We split for financial reasons, in the end, but we still have love for one another, which is really nice. Usually, my men are younger than me, and that I have come to realize is because I just have more in common with them. My current BF is 6 years younger, and that's as young as I'd want to go these days, but really it's all about the two people, not their ages.

I have a friend her in town who's in in mid-50's. First time I met his wife I thought she was his mother, til he introduced her as his spouse!!
He later told me that she's 13 years older than he is.

I thnk it all depends how well you can relate to the person in question. If you talk about music and they either think of Bob Dylan as a little whippersnapper, or they ask who the heck he is, well, then you know it ain't gonna work out.

Oh wow, I see my ex bf mentioned me here - I was 7 years older than him.

I have a ten year window going both ways but prefer younger men.

As you know I was with a MUCH younger man last year but it was just for fun :)
