"We have all been here before, we have all been here before..."

Thank you for all your kind comments on Tuesday's post!  To my beloved reader Cassie, who wondered whether Hazel ever smiles, I give you this:

It's funny.  I too, had secretly wondered about this kid.   I'd look at the pictures of this beautiful, but very stoic looking toddler on Courtney's Facebook page and think, what the hell does she have to worry about?  April 15 is rapidly approaching and I'm the one who still hasn't collected all my tax shit.

I get to see Hazel only every couple of months, and usually there are so many other people around that she withdraws a bit.  Last week, though, I was really able to get to know her.  I was kind of relieved to see that she actually does smile and even giggles when you play little baby games with her.  She is pure joy.

That said, Hazel is still the most serious baby ever.  My own kids, as well as my grandson, Connor, were the type of babies that took in the world wide-eyed and marveled at everything like it was their first day on earth.  Look, a ball!  Look, a light switch that goes on-off, on-off!  Everything amazed them.

Hazie is different.  Sometimes she sits back with almost an air of disinterest.  I get the feeling this is not her first time on this planet; I think she's an old soul who's been here, done that many times before and can't believe she's back for another go-around.  Don't get me wrong; Hazel has a sweet disposition and you really can engage her.  It's just that nothing seems new to her.

It's going to be interesting watching her grow.  I wonder, have you ever encountered a baby like Hazel?  What kind of child/person did that baby grow up to be?

YES YES YES!!!! My sister's best friend Dorothy had a baby girl she named April. April NEVER, EVER smiled. EVER. She was a serious, quiet child. Now she is all grown up and lives in my condominium complex so I see her quite a bit. She has her masters degree and is a teacher to gifted students. She is amazing. She writes poetry, she's smart, together, well read. I LOVE HER!

Personally, I am in love with Hazel. She is the cutest, serious baby I've ever seen. And that smile omg. Maybe she really has been here before?! And p.s. your daughter is beautiful.

LOVE YOU! MISS YOU! MEAN IT!
XOXO

Thank you so much, I almost feel like today's blog was just for me. :) Thanks for letting me know that Hazel does smile, she's just a little shy.

She's a cutie! I'm so jealous of that gorgeous red hair of hers!

Gosh, I don't know about kids. I'm still learning myself and at 8 months pregnant about to have my second daughter, this is all still a mystery to me.

All I can say is how much they change. I know my Vivian (now age 4) was a serious baby and toddler, didn't like most people and didn't seem to play well with other kids either. But somewhere between age 3 and 4, she just changed.... so silly now, will talk to anyone and does in grocery stores or wherever! She went from not letting me touch her hair to fussing over it first thing in the morning for me to "fix it." I'm like, who are you kid? Did aliens take over your brain?

I can't wait to see what this next girl of mine will be like! One thing's for sure, they make life grand! :)

Enjoy! I love hearing the family stuff. It's what makes us part of who we are - the people in it!

Hazel is adorable.

I have a nephew who was a quiet, serious baby. Now he is a quiet, serious 21 year old. I think we are "hard-wired" to be a certain way and we mostly maintain that countenance our entire lives.

Learning to respond and respect each child's uniqueness is the challenge of the adults in her life. She will flourish if her nature is nurtured! (say that five times fast)
